Editorial Policy
Gold and silver prices sit squarely in the “your money” category, so this page spells out exactly how our numbers are made, what is automated, what is human, and what happens when something is wrong.
Price methodology
Every rate on this site is computed with one published method, in this order:
- Spot price: the live international price of the metal in Indian rupees per troy ounce, from a licensed market-data API, converted to grams (1 troy ounce = 31.1035 g).
- Indian market premium: a premium factor covering import duty and the typical wholesale premium on bullion landed in India, reviewed and calibrated against published Indian benchmark rates. It is stored as configuration, not hard-coded, so calibration changes are deliberate and traceable.
- Purity derivation: 22K = 24K × 0.916 and 18K = 24K × 0.750, the BIS hallmarking fractions.
- City adjustment: a small flat rupees-per-gram adjustment per city reflecting local jewellers' association quotes and logistics. City trends always follow the national trend.
Rates are indicative and pre-tax: GST (3%) and making charges apply only at a jeweller's bill. Historical charts use the same method applied to historical spot data, so the series is methodologically consistent end to end.
Automation and human review
Rate collection, computation and publication are fully automated — numbers update every 10 minutes without manual intervention, and failed updates keep the last good rate on the page (with its timestamp) rather than publishing a guess. Editorial content — city buying guides, FAQs, calculator explanations — is written and reviewed by people, and we only publish city-specific content where we have genuinely local information; cities without it get accurate rate data without filler prose.
Sources
Market data comes from a licensed price API. Contextual facts — import duty rates, RBI gold-loan rules, hallmarking requirements — are checked against primary sources (RBI directions, BIS documentation, government notifications) at the time of writing. Lender comparison tables are indicative, clearly labelled, and carry no paid placements.
Independence
Nobody pays to influence a rate, a ranking or a recommendation on this site. We do not sell bullion or loans, and we hold no position in any lender or jeweller we mention. If sponsored placements are ever introduced, they will be visibly labelled and will never alter the rates.
Corrections
Data errors are fixed as soon as they are confirmed — usually within hours — by correcting the pipeline or the stored data, not by silently editing a page. Editorial errors are corrected in place. To report either, use the contact page.
Not investment advice
Nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any metal or financial product. Historical performance does not predict future prices. For decisions involving significant amounts, consult a SEBI-registered investment adviser or a qualified tax professional.
